Changing HW Acceleration

Windows PC.
Sometimes your computer does not behave as it should. Windows are not displaying what they should, games are showing the wrong graphic, some windows are showing without borders, or text is not showing up.
When trying to solve a problem on the PC, always try to think what would be the simplest thing to do, and if this step is easy to undo.
The first thing to try for a display problem is to deactivate the Hardware Acceleration and see what it does.
How To Change the Level of Acceleration Provided by your Graphic Card

  1. Right Click in an empty space on your desktop. A menu shows up.
  2. Go down the list and select "Properties". A window with the title "Display Properties" appears. This windows has tabs, just below the title, with names like "Themes, "Desktop","Screen Saver"..."Settings"
  3. Click the tab marked "Settings".
  4. Near the bottom right, Click the Button marked "Advanced". A new window appears. This window has more tabs.
  5. Click the tab marked "Troubleshoot". In this tab you will see a Graphical Slider Named "Hardware acceleration" marked with "None" on the right and "Full" on the left (on the same line).
  6. With the mouse move the slider knob to the right, all the way to "None".
  7. Click the "OK" button, then click "OK" again to close both windows.

Now try the program that was having problems with display.
If this does not fix the problem, then you know it is not the acceleration on the card, that is causing the problem. Another thing you might try is run the "Direct X " diagnostic. Games need fast access to the Graphic Display and on Windows they have to use the "Direct X" interface. See how to check the "Direct X" interface here.
If the result is better, then repeat the steps above, but try to move the slider up (toward "Full") a little. Keep moving the slider up as long as the problem does not show up.
If the problem shows up again, move down the slider one tick. and keep it like this.
